Understanding our model and our work
We do things differently. Here are answers to common questions about Vision to Venture Foundation, our approach, and how you can get involved.
Vision to Venture Foundation is an operational philanthropy that closes access gaps in health. We work across three areas: cancer care access (through our Fight Sarcoma initiative), community health connections, and medication access.
We are not traditional funders who write checks to other organizations. We are not traditional service providers who deliver programs and count encounters. We build and operate infrastructure that connects people to health resources they couldn’t otherwise reach.
Access gaps exist when resources are available but barriers prevent people from reaching them.
For example, a clinical trial may exist, but a cancer patient can’t find it. Likewise, community support programs exist but a struggling family doesn’t know about them, or a medication is available to help a patient but they can’t afford it or navigate the complexity to obtain it.
These gaps determine health outcomes as powerfully as any medical intervention. We close them.
Operational philanthropy is our model. Instead of funding other organizations to work on problems, we build and operate solutions ourselves.
We identify access gaps and map the barriers causing them. We then design and operate the infrastructure that closes them. We measure whether it works and improve until it does.
This makes us directly accountable for outcomes, not just for grants made or services delivered.
Most foundations fund. They identify problems, find organizations working on them, and provide financial support.
Most nonprofits serve. They deliver programs to people in need and count how many they help.
We do neither. We operate in the gap between health resources and people who need them. We build the bridges that create access. We’re accountable for whether gaps actually close.
Different question. Different model. Different results.
Fight Sarcoma is our flagship initiative and the clearest demonstration of our operational philanthropy model.
Fight Sarcoma connects sarcoma patients directly to clinical trials, research, and care options. We built and operate this program. We measure how many patients are connected to care they couldn’t otherwise access.
Fight Sarcoma shows what closing access gaps looks like in practice.
Cancer care access, community health connections, and medication access each represent critical areas where resources exist but often don’t reach people who need them.
Each requires operational solutions. Funding alone can’t close these gaps and services alone can’t reach around them. They require infrastructure that creates connection.
Our methodology applies across all three. The barriers differ but the approach is consistent.
Social determinants of health are the conditions where people live, work, and age that shape their health outcomes. Housing stability, food security, transportation, social support, and education all influence health, often before anyone sees a doctor.
Research consistently shows these factors determine outcomes as powerfully as clinical care. That’s why our Community Health Connections work focuses on linking people to the resources that address these foundational needs.
Closing access gaps in community resources is health work.
We measure outcomes, not activities.
For cancer care access: patients connected to clinical trials and care options.
For community health connections: individuals and families linked to resources that address social determinants of health.
For medication access: barriers removed, prescriptions filled, treatments reaching patients.
We track whether gaps actually close. When results fall short, we change our approach. Continuous improvement is the goal, not just annual reporting.
